Merry Christmas To All!!!!

GO ELF YOURSELF.

Hope everyone is staying toasty, because it will be a while til we all thaw out. Hope you either have a winter get away booked or the will power to endure another New York winter.
I just booked Costa Rica for February... out of pure neccessity.
I think I might just die if I didn't book something to keep my sanity alive during the winter duldrums.
Hope everyone has a great New Year and I hope to see you all soon...

I meant to post this sooner but here are some cool shots from the Sacred Craft Show this past year. It's about supporting the heart and foundation of our livelyhood as surfers. All different craftsmen from wetsuit design, to shapers and everything else in between. I would love to attend this show in 2010!

A Little Niecey Action!

The Makayla Files
Alright so a little family indulgence, but my niece really is the best baby EVA!!! I know you've heard it before but she's the real deal. Jess & I have watched her numerous times and she's all smiles & laughs. When she's not doing that she's just chilling as if she's one of the gang.
We love you Makayla.

Give me the bright lights, long nights, party til the break of dawn!!!

Holy Goodness for Your Mouth

BREAKFAST BURRITO *AWESOMENESS*
Jess served up a little happiness for the old taste buds the other morning... I must say it probably was the best thing I have ever had for breakfast. Ingredients: Peppers, onions, home grown cherry tomatoes, the key ingredient asparagus and eggs all wrapped up in a grilled whole wheat tortilla. Off the charts good that after one bite I had to take a picture.

2 Album Releases from 2009

THE DECEMBERISTS- The Hazards of Love
THE DODOS- Time To Die
I was anticipating the release of both of these albums this past year. The Decemberists dropped their album back in March but is still so very prominently ringing in my ears. The Dodos just released their album at the end of August and although the 2 artists have different sounds, I felt they were a good fit together for a rambling review from yours truly. I am not gonna get all high and mighty with my critique, because after all I am just one music fan amongst many. Just another enthusiast with the controls of the internet at the tips of their fingers. I just thought I would share my thoughts with those maybe unfamiliar with these fine artists.

To preface this paragraph I must state that I am a big Decemberists fan coming in to this review. They have probably entertained my ears the most over the past few years. So needless to say, I was highly anticipating the release of "The Hazards of Love." The first listen through I was a little disappointed, I guess because I was eagerly expecting more of the quirky verbrato I've come so accustomed to hearing, wail from singer Colin Meloy's lungs. Just as I have so many times before, I was now going to have to adjust my expectations and try to be much more open to an album that clearly packed a whopping punch, but one that I was clearly not expecting. On the second listen, I was much more clear headed and stripped of most of my anticipatory notions. That's when it hit me and immediately entered my bloodstream, as only the great music does. The Decemberists delivered their trademark storytelling melodies with the accompaniment of more female voices and a tour de force of sounds. They have always been amazing at capturing the essence of their music not just from an audible standpoint, but because of the storytelling approach you experience a visual landscape in your head as well. This is quite evident on this album and they seemed to link the entire album into a "play-like" script. Impressive on all fronts and one of the better albums in years! While there are standout songs on the album, it is best to embrace the entire album to really get it... because it will get you.

I only started listening to the Dodos about a year ago, but I was immediately drawn in to their "woodsy" sound and very percussion dominant songs. They have a unique and captivating sound that takes you to places far away from home. Whether you are in your car, cubicle or at home you will be transported to lofty destinations atop tree canopies and overlooking sweet oceans. "Time To Die" is a good album and I don't want to downplay their talent, but I can't help but compare it to their earlier work. The latest album seems to take a more mainstream route with the overall sound. The vocals are still captivating and they kept some of their unique instrumental sounds, but as a whole it is lacking their trademark sound. Again, the album is quite good, but I would definitely recommend listeners to check out their older albums "Visiter" & "Beware of the Maniac" for a true spectrum of this band. I promise you shant be disappointed.

Congrats to Steve & Luisa

Mr & Mrs. Corrigan on their wedding day... check out the best man below.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately... us teachers had to go back to work and I was just getting situated being back in the classroom. I'm also taking 2 online courses as well as a regular classroom course. I'm enjoying the regular course, but the online courses are horrible. I really can not stand them and I actually fell asleep in my computer chair watching one of the video presentations. Never again!!!

This is like porn for printers & artists alike. I love the sound it makes & I'm still amazed at the quality of printing from a letterpress as old as it is.

ALMOND SURFBOARDS & DESIGNS

I stumbled upon this shop online awhile ago but I figured I'd share it with anyone that hasn't had the pleasure of checking it out. Dave & crew over there in Newport, CA are really churning out some great product. The boards look gorgeous and the overall vibe and designs really capture a different essence then most surf shops. They follow much in the footsteps of the new frontier shops that MOLLUSK has spearheaded, but still take it in their own unique direction. Makes me wish I lived closer to these finer shops... I still have to fight the traffic of Long Island & NYC to get myself to the Mollusk NYC shop, but oh it is always worth it. It's always been a dream of mine to own a shop and these stores really capture the essence of something I would love to be a part of... so support the good salt shops out there.

Ground Swell (finally)

Well it looks as if we will finally be getting some long period ground swell headed our way by the end of the week and into the weekend. I think this is the longest we have had to wait for a named storm in decades. Now we just need the winds to work with us...

Throwback Cruiser & Other Classic Rides

I won't even tell you were I picked up this cruiser because you wouldn't even believe me... and I'm not really too proud about shopping there... but c'mon could you pass this ride up? She's a darling of a ride... just wish I was in a beach town someplace where she could really stretch her wings. I guess Wrong Island, New York will have to suffice for now.
The vintage whips are from the Sayville Street Fair > I couldn't get enough of them.
